Biography

Dr. Alison Zagona is Assistant Professor of Special Education at the University of Kansas. Her research is focused on supporting teachers to effectively provide grade-level literacy instruction for students with complex support needs in inclusive, general education classrooms. Given the connection between literacy and communication, Dr. Zagona is also interested in providing supports to students with complex communication needs in inclusive, general education classrooms. Dr. Zagona is also focused on examining the experiences of teachers and administrators in providing supports for students with complex support needs in inclusive, general education classrooms.

Dr. Zagona was a special education teacher for five years and brings that experience to her role as the program coordinator in the low-incidence disabilities special education program
