Admission to Master's Degree at KU

This Master’s degree in Early Childhood Unified is available for individuals and working professionals at both the main KU Campus in Lawrence, Kansas as well as the KU Edwards Campus in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. If you are choosing to pursue a graduate program in special education with an emphasis in early childhood unified, you do not need to hold a valid initial teaching license - only a bachelor's degree in a related field. The Early Childhood Unified master's program is an initial licensure program. It does not allow for a provisional endorsement unless you already have an initial teacher license (i.e., elementary, middle, or secondary). Experience working with young children is preferred.
Application Deadlines for the Master's Degree in Early Childhood Unified
Domestic Applicants:
Apply before July 20 to begin in the Fall Semester
Apply before December 17 to begin in the Spring Semester
Apply before April 28 to begin in the Summer Semester
International Applicants:
Apply before June 15 to begin in the Fall Semester
Apply before November 12 to begin in the Spring Semester

Approximately 2 weeks after applying online, you will be able check your "application status" to see what materials have been submitted and what application documents have not been received. If you have questions or concerns regarding the application process, please contact specialeduadm@ku.edu or 785-864-4342. Please note that until all components of the application have been received, the application will not be considered by the Special Education Department Admissions Committee. Only completed applications received by the deadlines will be considered.
Completed applications are reviewed monthly up to the application deadline. Once a recommendation (admit/do not admit) has been made by the Department of Special Education Admission Committee, you will be notified by e-mail. It is critical that you provide a current, valid e-mail address. Official notification of admission to the University of Kansas will be sent to you directly via email from the Office of Graduate Studies. Applicants will be required to accept or deny admission in the decision portal. If the committee has recommended admission, the Special Education Department will also include the name of your primary advisor in your e-mail, along with contact information. If you are an international applicant, we strongly encouraged you to complete the application process well in advance of these deadlines, in order to ensure adequate time for processing of visa-related materials.
