Biography —
Maria Compton-Hernandez is currently chair person of the American Sign Language program and the Instructor for ASL Level 4. She earned her Master's Degree in Deaf Education at Western Maryland College. She has a B.A. degree from Benedictine College in Secondary Education and English, with a Social Studies Minor. She has been fluent in American Sign Language since the age of 16. She taught Deaf Students for 14 years in the High School English and Literature Department at the Kansas School for the Deaf. She has been teaching American Sign Language at KU for nearly 15 years.
